Everything below concerns epithalamin. We keep the language plain, cite what the science says, and separate well-supported claims from open questions.

Identity and purity are checked by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, usually with ultraviolet detection near 214 nanometres, where the peptide bond absorbs. Mass spectrometry confirms the expected mass and reveals whether truncation products or adducts are present. Acid hydrolysis followed by amino acid analysis gives the residue ratio, which should approximate one alanine, one glutamate, one aspartate and one glycine. Counter-ions such as acetate or trifluoroacetate remain in the dried product and lower net peptide content, so a stated purity figure on a label does not by itself describe how much peptide a vial holds.
Regulatory treatment differs by country. No formulation of epitalon holds a marketing authorisation as a medicine in the United States or the European Union, where material sold for laboratory use is handled as a research chemical and is not intended for human consumption. In Russia, several short peptide preparations from the same institute's peptide series are registered medicinal products, and epitalon appears in that national context. Elsewhere it is frequently offered as a cosmetic ingredient, a category with lighter requirements. Advertising claims about longevity or disease prevention are restricted in most jurisdictions, which limits how sellers describe the compound.
Literature searches for this compound must account for several spelling variants. Indexing databases contain epitalon, epithalon, epithalone, and AEDG, and relevant records are scattered across Russian-language and English-language journals that do not consistently cross-cite. Early publications describe the parent extract as a mixture of many peptides, whereas later work addresses the single synthetic tetrapeptide. That shift in nomenclature complicates comparison between studies, because extract data and tetrapeptide data are sometimes cited interchangeably. A search strategy omitting the alternate spellings will return an incomplete set of references.
Reported biological findings come mainly from cell culture and rodent experiments. Those studies describe changes in telomerase catalytic subunit expression, melatonin rhythm amplitude, and antioxidant enzyme activity after peptide exposure. Human data are sparse and consist of small trials with limited blinding and inconsistent endpoints. The proposed mechanisms remain hypotheses rather than established facts, and there is no consensus on whether effects observed in animals carry over to people. Independent replication outside the original research groups is limited, which is a recognised gap in the published literature.
The parent extract epithalamin was characterised as a low-molecular-weight fraction of pineal tissue rather than a single defined chemical entity. Researchers fractionated it and tested successive fragments for activity, a screening approach typical of peptide discovery work in that era. Epitalon emerged from that process as one of the shorter sequences of interest. Because the original extract was never fully resolved into individual components, claims about which constituent drives a given effect rest on inference. This distinction matters when reading older reports that attribute extract observations to the tetrapeptide itself.

Identity and purity are established with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The chromatogram shows the main peak and any truncated or oxidised by-products, while the mass spectrum confirms the expected 390 dalton mass. Amino acid analysis can corroborate composition when a sample's origin is uncertain. Counterion content, particularly residual trifluoroacetate from purification, is frequently reported alongside purity because it shifts the net mass of the solid.
Reference material is normally supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial. Product literature typically recommends storage at minus twenty degrees Celsius or colder, protected from light and moisture. Freeze-thaw cycling is usually avoided because repeated condensation can introduce water into the vial. Working solutions are commonly prepared fresh, aliquoted, and kept cold for short periods rather than stored at ambient temperature. Labelling the date of opening helps track how long a vial has been in use.
The compound is described in the literature as a derivative of epithalamin, a preparation obtained from bovine pineal tissue. Work on this peptide family was carried out mainly by a research group in Saint Petersburg beginning in the 1980s, and the substance was later registered for clinical use in Russia under the name Epitalon. Outside that region it is generally treated as a research chemical rather than an approved medicine. Statements about its biological activity rest on a relatively small number of studies, and independent replication remains limited.
In its supplied form epitalon is a white to off-white powder, usually lyophilized and often hygroscopic. It dissolves readily in water and in aqueous buffers, and it is commonly handled as the acetate or trifluoroacetate salt to improve stability during purification and drying. The amide backbone is labile in aqueous media, so solutions are less durable than the dry solid. Handling notes in the chemical literature therefore emphasize keeping the powder dry, cool and shielded from light until it is dissolved.
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide whose sequence is alanine-glutamate-aspartate-glycine, written in single-letter code as AEDG. The four residues are joined by three peptide bonds, giving a linear backbone with no branching and no disulfide bridges. Its calculated molecular mass for the free form is approximately 390.3 daltons, a figure that rises when the compound is supplied as an acetate or trifluoroacetate salt. Because the chain is short, the molecule is defined entirely by its residue order rather than by any folded three-dimensional structure.
== Interactions == Lixisenatide and other GLP-1 receptor agonist slow emptying of stomach contents, which may affect the absorption of orally administered medications. For effective use, oral contraceptives should be taken 1 hour before or 11 hours after taking lixisenatide-containing products. Acetaminophen and antibiotics are among other drugs that are affected by this action of lixisenatide.
Recent developments that exploit proximal functional groups have enabled hydrazone condensations to operate at 20 M−1s−1 at neutral pH while oxime condensations have been discovered which proceed at 500-10000 M−1s−1 at neutral pH without added catalysts.
This policy was abolished in 2000 in favour of a scheme generally known as Pet Passports, under which animals can avoid quarantine if they have documentation showing they are up to date with their appropriate vaccinations. In the past, European countries implemented quarantine measures to curb the Bubonic Plague and Cholera. In the British Isles, for example, the Quarantine Act 1710 (9 Ann. c. 2) established maritime quarantine policies in an era in which strict border control measures as a whole were yet to become mainstream. The first act was called for due to fears that the plague might be imported from Poland and the Baltic states. A second act of Parliament, the Quarantine Act 1721 (8 Geo. 1. c. 10), was due to the prevalence of the plague at Marseille and other places in Provence, France. It was renewed in 1733 after a new outbreak in continental Europe, and again in 1743, due to an epidemic in Messina. A rigorous quarantine clause was introduced into the Levant Act 1752, an act regulating trade with the Levant, and various arbitrary orders were issued during the next twenty years to meet the supposed danger of infection from the Baltic states. Although no plague cases ever came to England during that period, the restrictions on traffic became more stringent, and a very strict Quarantine and Customs Act 1788 (28 Geo. 3. c. 34) was passed, with provisions affecting cargoes in particular.
nucleotide Also nucleoside monophosphate (NMP). An organic molecule that serves as the fundamental monomer or subunit of nucleic acid polymers, including RNA and DNA. Each nucleotide is composed of three connected functional groups: a nitrogenous base, a five-carbon sugar (either ribose or deoxyribose), and a single phosphate group. Though technically distinct, the term "nucleotide" is often used interchangeably with nitrogenous base, nucleobase, and base pair when referring to the sequences that make up nucleic acids. Compare nucleoside.
Flupirtine, sold under the brand name Katadolon, is an analgesic medication which was originally used to treat acute and chronic pain. It acts as a selective neuronal KCNQ potassium channel opener. The drug first became available in Europe in 1984 and after it went off patent many generic brands were introduced. In 2013, due to issues with liver toxicity, the European Medicines Agency restricted its use to acute pain, for no more than two weeks, and only for people who cannot use other painkillers. In March 2018, marketing authorisations for flupirtine were withdrawn following a European Medicines Agency recommendation based on the finding that the restrictions introduced in 2013 had not been sufficiently followed in clinical practice, and cases of serious liver injury still occurred including liver failure.

The C-terminal death domain (DD) of RAIDD interacts with the corresponding DD of PIDD1, while the N-terminal region contains a caspase activation and recruitment domain (CARD) that promotes homotypic binding with procaspase-2. This configuration enables RAIDD to play a critical role in the signaling pathways that lead to apoptosis. The binding of procaspase-2 to the complex positions the caspase-2 monomers in close proximity, which promotes their dimerization and initiates autocatalytic cleavage, resulting in activation. In addition to DNA damage, several other factors have been identified as potential triggers for caspase-2 activation, both within and outside the PIDDosome. These activation signals are varied and encompass conditions such as heat shock, alterations to the cytoskeleton, and the buildup of β-amyloids. Importantly, caspase-2 and the PIDDosome play essential role in "polyploidy checkpoint." Importantly, caspase-2 and the PIDDosome play essential role in "polyploidy checkpoint." Triggered by the presence of extra centrosomes (supernumeray centrosomes), which often occur following unsuccessful cell division (cytokinesis), the PIDDosome activates caspase-2. This activation leads to the proteolytic inactivation of MDM2, resulting in the activation of a p53 response. Additionally, recent research has connected caspase-2 to the monitoring of aneuploidy in cancer, although the exact mechanisms involved are not yet clearly defined.
The flow rate-enhanced chromatographic compression strategy has been applied to a diverse set of applications since the development of the GC-VUV method for residual solvents analysis. The fast GC-VUV approach reduced GC runtimes for terpene analysis from 30 minutes to 9 minutes (the deconvolution of monoterpene isomers is shown in Figure 4). It has also been demonstrated that GC runtimes as short as 14 minutes can be used for PIONA compound analysis of gasoline samples. Typical GC separation times range between 1 – 2 hours using alternative methods.
Plant morphology or phytomorphology is the study of the physical form and external structure of plants. This is usually considered distinct from plant anatomy, which is the study of the internal structure of plants, especially at the microscopic level. Plant morphology is useful in the visual identification of plants. Recent studies in molecular biology started to investigate the molecular processes involved in determining the conservation and diversification of plant morphologies. In these studies, transcriptome conservation patterns were found to mark crucial ontogenetic transitions during the plant life cycle which may result in evolutionary constraints limiting diversification.

In 2009, True was featured prominently in Christopher McDougall's best selling book Born to Run. The book told the story of the Copper Canyons ultra marathon and the Tarahumara, while promoting the endurance running hypothesis, arguing that humans left the forests and moved to the savannas by developing the ability to run long distances in order to hunt prey by simply outlasting them in a long chase. Becoming a central character in a best selling book changed True's life significantly. Previously he had lived a quiet simple life, not seeing himself as the eccentric and amazing person in the book. He said he sometimes felt like he had to "live up to the expectations of the book" and told people that the book contained exaggerations and inaccuracies. Nevertheless, he became active on Facebook where he encouraged people to follow him. It was through Facebook that he met Maria Walton, who became his girlfriend for the last two years of his life. True also began using his celebrity status to help raise funds for the annual Copper Canyon race. He spoke at various events, beginning with a Saucony sponsored event in Utah, and then eventually traveling to Sweden, Denmark, and England. According to Walton, True was never comfortable with his fame, only wanting to be known as someone who was genuine and real.

==== 1990s ==== In June 1992, at the time of its initial public offering, Starbucks (ticker symbol: SBUX) had 140 outlets, with revenue of US$73.5 million, up from US$1.3 million in 1987. The company's market value was US$271 million by this time. The 12% portion of the company that was sold raised around US$25 million for the company, which enabled it to double its number of stores over the next two years. In 1994, Starbucks acquired The Coffee Connection, gaining the rights to use, make, market, and sell the "Frappuccino" beverage. The beverage was introduced under the Starbucks name in 1995. In 1999, Starbucks experimented by opening eateries in the San Francisco Bay Area, under the Circadia restaurant brand. At the same time, Starbucks converted its Seattle Circadia restaurant into a Café Starbucks. The same year, Starbucks acquired Pasqua Coffee—a San Francisco-based retail coffee chain that had almost 60 locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City.
== Medical career == Farthing began his medical career in New Zealand where he practiced as a dermatologist. After five years, he moved abroad and worked for a year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He then moved to England and joined St. Stephen's Hospital, London in Chelsea. Between 1985 and 1987, the numbers of AIDS patients treated at St Stephen's rose from a dozen to over 1000. From 1985 to 1988, he was involved in clinical trials for the antiretroviral drugs Thymosin, AZT and foscarnet. In 1987, he helped found the Kobler Center at St Stephen's Hospital which specialised in the treatment and research of HIV/AIDS. It was one of the first wards in the United Kingdom to specialise in the area. He was chair of the all-party parliamentary committee on AIDS during the late 1980s, and was instrumental in guiding the governments reaction to the AIDS crisis. In 1988, he was awarded a Churchill fellowship which allowed him to move to the United States of America where he studied AIDS at the Bellevue Hospital in New York. He later became the director of the hospital's AIDS treatment program. In 1994, he moved to Los Angeles where he became the principal investigator of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, and in 2001, he was promoted to medical director. In 2007, he left the United States for Hong Kong where he joined Merck Sharp & Dohme. At the time of his death, he was director of medical affairs for infectious diseases in the Asia-Pacific.
== History == The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved ritlecitinib based on evidence from a clinical trial of 718 participants with severe alopecia areata. The efficacy and safety of ritlecitinib were evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial in 718 participants twelve years of age and older with alopecia areata with ≥50% scalp hair loss, including alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis. The trial randomized 130 participants to ritlecitinib 50 mg once daily, 131 participants to placebo, and 457 participants to other ritlecitinib dosing regimens. The safety evaluation was also supported by two placebo-controlled trials in which 80 participants were randomized to ritlecitinib 200 mg once daily for four weeks followed by 50 mg once daily and 82 participants were randomized to placebo. The trial was conducted at 128 sites in 18 countries in Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Poland, Russian Federation, Spain, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
== Pharmacology == The drug potentiates the tropomyosin receptor kinases TrkA, TrkB, and TrkC with EC50Tooltip half-maximal effective concentration values of 382 nM, 295 nM, and ~330 nM, respectively. As a positive allosteric modulator of TrkA and TrkB, ACD856 potentiates the effects of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF). In addition to the tropomyosin receptor kinases, ACD856 is also a similarly potent positive allosteric modulator of certain other receptor tyrosine kinases, including the insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R) and the fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1). However, its efficacies at the IGF1R and FGFR1 were much lower than at the TrkA, TrkB, and TrkC. In animals, ACD856 has been found to reverse scopolamine- and dizocilpine (MK-801)-induced memory impairment, to improve age-related memory deficits, and to have sustained antidepressant-like activity. It has also been reported to possess neuroprotective properties. In humans, the drug has been shown to cross the blood–brain barrier and to induce dose-dependent changes in electroencephalogram parameters. No significant tolerability or safety concerns have been identified in preclinical research or phase 1 clinical trials. The drug's clinical pharmacokinetics have been characterized and its elimination half-life is approximately 19 hours.

The solid is kept cold, dry and dark, typically at minus twenty degrees Celsius, in a sealed container with desiccant. Dissolved material is kept refrigerated and used promptly. Freezing and thawing a solution repeatedly is avoided because it accelerates degradation.
Reversed-phase chromatography with ultraviolet detection gives a purity percentage, while mass spectrometry confirms identity. Amino acid analysis checks the residue composition. Buyers typically request a certificate of analysis showing these measurements for the specific lot.
It is not authorised as a medicine in the United States or the European Union. Material is sold there as a research chemical or cosmetic ingredient. Some related short peptides are registered drugs in Russia, which is a distinct national situation rather than a general approval.
It is based on epithalamin, a peptide-rich preparation obtained from pineal gland tissue and studied in the former Soviet Union. Researchers later identified the tetrapeptide AEDG as a constituent fragment of that material. Modern supplies are produced by chemical synthesis rather than tissue extraction.
